DALLAS TEXAS METROPLEX TRAINING
Resilience Training for Work, Home and School
If someone said they knew how you could feel better and achieve
more, would you want more information? Sure you would. Well, it's
true. We do know how to help people feel better and achieve more.
Anyone can increase their capacity to cope with life's demands.
Psychological studies call this ability resilience.
Resilience is the ability to bounce back from adversity. Today's
world provides plenty of adversity. We must cope with complexities
and pressures such as have never been seen before. Our success
depends on our ability to manage endless tasks, responsibilities and
rapid change in all aspects of our lives
We all know that bad things happen. And when an adversity comes our
way, it's like a kick in the gut. It knocks the wind out of us. The
sooner we can bounce back from the adversity, the better off we will
be. In fact, our careers and our relationships depend on it.
Dr. Edwards develops and delivers training in the
basic skills of resilience. The good
news is that the skills involved in resilience can be learned (and
unproductive habits can be un-learned). A substantial body of
research has demonstrated the effectiveness of resilience training.
Dr.
Martin Seligman has been a pioneer in understanding resilience
and putting it to the test in America's workplace, homes and
schools.
Interestingly, Dr. Edwards' passion for resilience training evolved
from his clinical work. The theory and techniques that enable people
to conquer depression also help people to function at their best.
Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT)
provides this basis.
In CBT the therapist and client work
together to understand what is happening in the client's life and to
change negative patterns of thinking and acting.
CBT emphasizes active participation by
the client. It is goal oriented and problem focused. It seeks to
teach the client to be his or her own therapist. The result is
enduring emotional and behavioral change. Clients feel better, worry
less, and cope with stress better.
These same skills can be used by anyone to tackle adversity better
and bounce back more quickly. Thus, we become better at handling
life's stresses and prevailing in the face of life's challenges.
Resilience training is useful in any
setting that requires achievement, a positive mood, physical health
or leadership. Yes, that just about covers all aspects our lives. It
really does enable you to feel better and achieve more.
